Mets' place Steven Matz on the DL with shoulder injury
Young Mets left-hander Steven Matz is said to have a "mild" shoulder strain and some issues with rotator cuff irritation, but no structural damage in his left shoulder, following an exam by team doctors, people familiar with the situation said.
Citing people familiar with the situation, Jon Heyman of Today's Knuckleball and WFAN reported that Matz's exam and MRI on Monday in NY did not reveal any structural damage.
To fill the spot on the roster, the Mets have called up RHP Robert Gsellman from Las Vegas.
According to Fox Sports, Gsellman will begin his Major League Baseball career pitching out of bullpen - at least initially.

Matz, who flew back to NY for the exam and MRI, has pitched for three months after a large elbow spur was discovered, and endured it despite mostly shelving a slider that seems to cause the pain.
Matz could return during the upcoming four-game series against the Marlins, but if he has to miss time it puts the burden on Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard and Bartolo Colon to produce quality outings each time out.
Steven Matz has pitched most of this season with a painful bone spur in his left elbow.
