Tesla plans cash boost to bring new Model 3 to the masses

Tesla co-founder and chief executive Elon Musk will take part by buying $25 million worth of the new shares, according to the California-based company. The company says the offerings will strengthen its balance sheet and reduce risks from scaling up to produce the $35,000 Model 3 electric vehicle starting in July.

Tesla is looking to shell out somewhere in the range of $2 billion and $2.5 billion on capital expenses over the first half of the year.

Tesla said last month that it was on track to start producing the Model 3 in July and to reach volume production by September.

One of the most awaited cars of the year is Tesla's fourth and most affordable model to date - the Model 3.

Winter storm to hit southern Ontario Monday into Tuesday
A system is moving into the province and Environment Canada meteorologist Steve Knott says the snow will begin around Kitchener. Combined with strong winds, driving conditions could be hazardous thanks to blowing snow and reduced visibility.

A leaked image of Model 3 prototype claims that the company will not break its promise. The Tesla investors reacted decisively: on a single trading day the stock lost more than 6%.

Tesla seeks to raise about $1.15bn (£937m) by tapping the US Wall Street, the American electric automaker revealed on Wednesday (15 March).

While raising cash isn't critical to releasing the Model 3, it would probably be wise, Musk said on a February 22 conference call.

Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) is reportedly revving up production of its Model Y crossover, which is slated to come out in 2018. In fact, the smaller-than-expected capital raise "shows Tesla's confidence in the Model 3 timeline and should prove sufficient capital for the ramp of Model 3 production".

Signet Jewelers (NYSE:SIG) Noted As 'Neutral' In Update From Citigroup

"In many ways, I'm very supportive of what Tesla has done", Robertson said.

A recent regulatory filing made by Tesla contains plans for the issuing of $750m in convertible debt, as well as $250m in stock to ensure consistent progress and trajectory.

If Tesla shares were to fall in value, Musk's lenders could force him to put up more collateral or sell the stock. And according to the depot, the production of these beta prototypes is among the brand's objectives during the first quarter of this year. Tesla expects to churn out 5,000 vehicles a week. If underwriters led by Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, Citigroup and Morgan Stanley purchased options offered to them, the total could hit $1.15 billion.
