Accused Killer of Teacher, Beauty Queen Tara Grinstead Appears in Court

It is expected that we will learn the formal charges Duke will face in connection with the murder of Grinstead and possibly additional details about how investigators intend to prove he in fact killed the beauty queen.

Although the case is more than 11 years old, a GBI policy requires all investigative case files to be reviewed several times per year, and the case remained active for more than a decade.

On Thursday, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation held a news conference to announce that Duke, 33, was arrested after someone came forward with new information this week.

Mexican man takes own life 30 minutes after being deported from US
Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto last month canceled a meeting after Trump insisted he would make Mexico pay for the wall. An undocumented Mexican immigrant committed suicide half an hour after he was deported from the United States, BBC reports.

Duke graduated from Irvin County High School, where Grinstead taught history, three years before she went missing, the Associated Press reported.

Grinstead vanished from her hometown of Ocilla in October 2005 and was never seen again.

A news release from the GBI said foul play was immediately suspected and a massive search was conducted. They found her cell phone and auto all still there but the 30-year-old teacher was gone. Police said when they got to Grinstead's home to investigate, they found no signs of a struggle and her purse, keys and cell phone were still there. Before Duke's arrest, GBI interviewed more than 200 people without finding a single person of interest.

Witnesses last saw Grinstead at a beauty pageant, then at a co-worker's barbecue before she went home.

Grinstead's remains were never found.
