Picture of the day: 104 satellites launched on single ISRO rocket

Indian onlookers watch the launch of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV-C37) at Sriharikota on Febuary 15, 2017.

Out of the total 226 satellites launched by ISRO with its PSLV rocket, 179 satellites were for foreign customers, said Project Director Jayakumar.

Before India, it was Russian Federation holding the record of launching as many as 37 satellites in one go in 2014. The launch took place at Sriharikota High Altitude Center (SARC) at Satish Dhawan Space Center in Andhra Pradesh at 9:28 am.

The launch of PSLV-C37 injected 103 co-passenger satellites along with Cartosat-2 series that weighed 714 Kg, followed by nano satellites INS 1A and INS 1B in a 505 Km polar Sun Synchronous Orbit (SSO). Among the 103 nano-satellites are 96 from the US, and one each from Israel, Kazakhstan, Netherlands, Switzerland and United Arab Emirates. The PSLV-C37 included the Cartosat-2 series, 101 worldwide nano satellites, as well as the INS-1A and INS-1B - two of its ISRO's nano satellites.
