Woman pulled from burning auto reunites with officer

A police officer in the United States has gone above and beyond the call of duty to rescue a woman trapped inside her burning vehicle in Washington.

The dramatic rescue was caught on the officer's body camera.

She called 911 and then noticed flames coming from the front of the windshield.

Officer Tim Schwering eventually arrived and began smashing the window with his baton. They said he broke a hole in the auto window with his baton, but was not able to unlock the door.

The officer was released from the hospital after getting treatment for smoke inhalation. She tried kicking out the windows but couldn't. The neighbor received a minor cut from the broken window. "I honestly believed I may not make it out of there", Kim Novak said. "Between that and the smoke I didn't know what was going to get me first".

Kimberly Novak, who identified herself as the driver in the video, told ABC affiliate KXLY-TV in Spokane, Washington, that she was headed to the store for ice cream when her auto hit slush on the road and died.

It's unclear why the vehicle burst into flames.
