Star Wars Episode 8 gets a name: The Last Jedi

It's official. STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI is the next chapter of the Skywalker saga.

Star Wars fans were in a state of excitement today as the franchise gave them their first taste of the next film in the series.

Lucasfilm just officially announced the Star Wars: Episode VIII title as Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and already a bit of a storm in a teacup has begun brewing online as fans debate what the title might mean. However, for now, we are going to continue to ride our X-Wings made of hype as we await the eventual teaser for this movie.

"Jedi", however, can also be plural-so perhaps Luke is not the only one remaining. It is scheduled to hit theatres on December 15, 2017.

It is set to star Ridley, Hamill, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis and the late Carrie Fisher. Who knows what Laura Dern and Benicio Del Toro and that hairy tuxedo alien are up to. The cast also includes the late Carrie Fisher, who died on December 27.

The Star Wars red font choice is also interesting, as the logo has usually stuck with a yellow-colored font since the beginning.

Carrie Fisher, who passed away suddenly late past year, shot all of her scenes before her death, Disney said at the time of her passing.
