Brazilian policeman admits murdering Greek ambassador at wife's request, police say

Police found a body they determined to be Amiridis inside a burnt-out auto underneath an overpass in the city of Nova Iguacu, near Rio de Janeiro, on Thursday after his wife reported he had been missing since December 26.

Magalhaes has alleged that Francoise, 40, and the accused police officer Sergio Moreira, 29, had arranged the murder a few days in advance.

Mr Amiridis was Greek ambassador to Libya from 2012 until this year, when he took up the post in Brazil.

Fired Buffalo Bills coach Rex Ryan was all bluster and no bite
Ryan's production wasn't bad in his near two full seasons in Western New York as he finished 8-8 in 2015 and 7-8 this time around. Offensive coordinator Anthony Lynn was named the team's interim coach for the Bills' season finale against the New York Jets.

They say the policeman's cousin confessed to moving the ambassador's body and gave full details of the plot to murder Mr Amiridis, implicating both Mr Moreira and Mrs Amiridis.

The ambassador's Brazilian wife, Francoise Amiridis, and two other people - all considered "suspects" - were brought in for questioning at the homicide division for Baixada Fluminense, a neighbourhood on Rio de Janeiro's west side, the source said.

Ambassador Kyriakos Amiridis, 59, had been missing since Monday, Pontes said. The couple have a 10-year-old daughter.

Greece's ambassador to Brazil, Kyriakos Amiridis, after a government ceremony in Brasilia, Brazil. However, he said it was not yet possible to determine the exact cause of death because the policeman had burned the ambassador's body in an attempt to cover up the crime.

The O Globo newspaper earlier reported that blood was found on a couch inside the home. The diplomat was reportedly in town for New Years celebrations at Copacabana beach when he left the house Monday without stating where he was going and never returned, according to his wife's testimony Thursday. Amiridis' body was found in a burned out auto in a violent Rio neighbourhood.

Rio de Janeiro has seen crimes rates soar in recent months, fueled by drug gang violence.

For the president, the answer to that question is a press obsessed with minutiae and partisans obsessed with winning at any cost. Critics have bemoaned the fact that there was no retaliation or public upbraiding of Putin from Obama before Election Day.

The neighbourhood where the vehicle was found under a flyover is reportedly dominated by armed groups who often extort residents and curry favour with local politicians.
