Norwegian retains chess title

Norwegian Carlsen and Karjakin finished their 12th game of the World Chess Championship match here on Monday with a draw, reports Tass.

But those expecting fireworks at the venue in Manhattan were disappointed. However, Karjakin's defensive technique failed him in the last two games, as Carlsen finally broke through in fine attacking style.

The scores are now tied 6-6 after the players appeared to be playing for a draw as they reeled out 30 moves in 35 minutes. Both players played aggressively, but after exchanging major pieces both agreed to a draw. Karjakin, 26, apart from showing his tenacious defensive skills throughout the match, also put Carlsen under pressure in the second half of the classical phase. Krush said Zatonskih played moves even before her own ones were completed and disputed the result, saying Zatonskih maintained her waning clock time through illegal means.

Acting Ohio State officer praised for killing attacker
He had no record of behavioral or disciplinary issues during his time at Columbus State, and graduated with honors, Krauss added. Ohio State University President Michael Drake thanked first responders and said he would visit the victims later in the day.

Carlsen previously defeated world champion Vishy Anand in 2013 to take the title, and defended his crown against Anand again in 2014.

Karjakin, who was born in the Ukrainian Crimea, became a Russian citizen in 2009 and has shown support for President Vladimir Putin. Only Carlsen and Karjakin rely on unaugmented human intelligence, NYT says. Both players have performed brilliantly, with nearly no false steps. The player with the white pieces shall receive 5 minutes, the player with the black pieces shall receive 4 minutes whereupon, after the 60th move, both players shall receive an increment of 3 seconds starting from move 61.

The player first to reach 6.5 points will be declared world champion and take home $636,000.

China currency dips to lowest level versus dollar in 8 years
Even though the yuan has depreciated 6.2% against the US dollar this year, China's exports have not picked up (see chart). After the victory of Donald Trump on the United States presidential election yuan fell by 1.5% against the dollar.

"At the very least, the tie-breaker should have been either made up of six rapid games or played until the very first victory".

This forced the ultimate tiebreak series of four rapid matches in which each player was given 25 minutes to make moves. However, the 2008 United States women's championship was decided in an Armageddon Game, spurring massive debate in the chess community. Carlsen believes he is better in rapid & blitz.

Carlsen retained his title, and Karjakin proved himself to have been a hard-fighting, tenacious opponent.
